Lab Rules

To maintain an atmosphere conducive to work for all students who use the DMC, we ask that everyone in the lab adhere to the following list of rules and guidelines.

  • A valid JHU ID is required for admittance to the DMC.
  • All students must check in at the front desk at the beginning of each work session.
  • Word processing, email, and casual web browsing may only be done on the front lobby workstation.
  • Priority usage of machines is given to students who have pre-approved projects.
  • No smoking or chewing tobacco, eating, or drinking is permitted in the Lab at any time.
  • Pets are not permitted in the Lab.
  • Refrain from loud talking, and use radios with earphones only.
  • If you are using audio files, or material with audio content, use headphones. if you do not have a pair of headphones with you, a pair may be checked out from the DMC.
  • Do not display on public screens images, sounds, or messages which could create an atmosphere of discomfort or harassment to others.
  • Defacing the Lab is prohibited.
  • Printing multiple copies of a single document is not permitted; large print jobs (those over 25 pages) should be split into 25-page blocks.
  • No commercial printing is allowed.
  • Push in your chairs before you leave. If you have moved any of the chairs, be courteous and return them to their original places.
  • Shirts and shoes are required at all times.
  • Altering the computers is prohibited.
  • Plugging in of personal peripherals must be cleared by DMC staff prior to connection.
  • Do not add, change, or remove hardware, and do not load commercial software or games onto the hard drives.
