Thoroughfare Magazine
Created by:
The editors of the student literary magazine Thoroughfare wanted to change the way they created and distributed their magazine to improve circulation and distinguish themselves from other campus journals. They were awarded a Digital Media Center Creative Use of Technology grant to translate their staple-bound magazine into digital formats: website, podcasts, and CD.
The Thoroughfare magazine features audio recordings of writers reading their poetry and prose as well as on-screen text display. These recordings were made during public readings as well as in the Digital Media Center recording studio. In addition to poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, the editors hope to include submissions of critiques, original artwork, photography, video, and music in the near future.
As each issue is completed the audio recordings will be uploaded to the web site where they will be available as podcasts. Magazine subscribers can receive podcast issues of the journal whenever they update their MP3 players.
This project was funded through the Digital Media Center’s Creative Use of Technology Grant. Request for proposals are issued every October. For more information: http://digitalmedia.jhu.edu/about/grant
